J. Hughey Burchfield Senatobia, Mississippi
"Art is: the end product of a process that begins in the heart with a sincere desire to create something that will please one or more of man's senses: evolves from the heart to the artist's "mind's eye" for completion of the "ART."
this quote is special to Hughey Burchfield, a man whose life is involved in sharing the "meaningful" to the "sincere of heart" by finding, photographing and helping display rare pieces of beauty; maintaining the understanding that beauty itself ultimately lies in the "eyes of the beholder."
It is with great delight that I have been afforded the opportunity to tell you about my dear friend and brother in Christ, Hughey Burchfield. What a wonderful gift to share the attributes I have come to learn and admire about him, while growing and serving together as members and elders in Senatobia Presbyterian Church. God has not only granted me joy in knowing him but a greater Eternal Hope through the evidence of a person whose life is committed to developing Christ-like character in every way.
At age 67, this Kosciusko, Mississippi native is a retired seven year educator and 30 year banker who had developed a life-long love for photography into a fascinating, creative business. One that is not only special to him but to those who employ his services.
Hughey's varied experiences (and personal and professional successes), have provided him a perfect measure of business know-how, wisdom and playful wit to be a great mentor to many in our community. His degrees, (BS in Education from Mississippi State University--1964, Masters in Education from Mississippi College--1969, and a "PhD in Living at the University of Hard Knocks"), gives this aspiring National Geographic feature photographer the ability to relate to all types of people.... and deliver fascinating pieces of art that match their individual "tastes."
His fabulous "works" of landscape and "everyday life" display his talent for capturing the intricate handiwork of the Almighty God. Often rising hours before dawn or lying awake in the the wee night hours pondering the next "great shot", he achieves his goal with an unmatchable uniqueness, purity and grace.
Hughey's inspiration for his commitment to excellence is found in the "breath taking" works of world renowned landscape and wildlife photographer, John Shaw, whose website he is drawn to weekly. He says, " I had the privilege of attending a two day seminar in 2004 of Mr. Shaw's that encouraged me to chase my dream and have fun with it. His is the best advice I've ever received with regards to photography. He said, 'Photograph what interest you and don't be late for work. Landscape photography is not for the late sleepers."
My friend Hughey's life is shared with his wife Faye, to whom he's been married for 40 years, his two daughter and their families , a son and (in his loving words) "four of the greatest grandchildren that have ever lived."
When he is not busy participating in the
activities of the DeSoto Arts Council or DeSoto Camera Club,
Hughey can be found serving others through church activities,
playing his guitar, working out at the gym or in
It is my hope you will allow your eyes to behold it and experience the sincere beauty and peace it will deliver to your heart and mind.
